Jonathan Watkins of IKON Gallery

With a career in the world of art spanning over 20 years, Jonathan Watkins is a fascinating and esteemed individual. Beginning as director of Chisenhale gallery back in 1990 his journey then took him to the renowned Serpentine Gallery as a curator in 1995. He has since been at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham for some 17 years and has continued to bring exciting and innovative contemporary art to the city. 

As well as directing and curating, Jonathan Watkins is an accomplished writer with an extensive archive of literature on contemporary art to his name. His knowledge and passion for contemporary art are immeasurable and his contributions to the field are both vast and appreciated. With a career based on true passion and interest it is invigorating to see him in his element, and for now we are grateful to have him here in Birmingham. 

We spent a morning with him perusing the gallery's interior space and light whilst discussing his fascinating career and undeniable passion for his role as director and curator.
